Sports Massage in Highland Park, IL

For athletes and active individuals, sports massage is an essential part of their training regimen. This type of massage therapy helps to promote physical healing, prevent injuries, and improve overall performance.

This therapeutic massage is also great to use in tandem with physical therapy when recovering from an injury. Sports massage is a type of therapeutic bodywork that uses a variety of techniques to help athletes achieve maximum performance and physical conditioning. It can be used to treat pathology, aid recovery, and prevent injury. Sports massage can also help with:

  • Relieving muscle pain
  • Improving range of motion
  • Breaking down scar tissue
  • Decreasing post-exercise cortisol levels
  • Increasing blood flow to muscles
  • Promoting lymphatic support
  • Reducing muscular tension
  • Promoting the body’s natural healing processes

Sports massage sessions are tailored to the individual’s needs and can be used as regular maintenance, pre-event, post-event, or rehabilitation massages. Massage techniques and pressure used will depend on if you are coming for massage before or after an event or during training.  More restorative, circulatory massage strokes are better before an event or during training.  Post-event is for recovery after the body has been pushed to it’s limits and is ready for rest.  Deep tissue techniques can actually damage or inflame tissues more, so a knowledgable massage therapist will know what is best for your situation.

Our massage therapists will work with you to give you a sports massage that alleviates muscle pain, discomfort, stress, and tight muscles while providing deep relaxation, relief, healing, and promoting your overall wellness so you can keep stretching higher.

Benefits of Sport Massage

Improved Flexibility and Range of Motion

Like a deep tissue massage, Sports massage helps to improve flexibility and range of motion, which can help athletes perform better and reduce the risk of injury. By targeting tight muscles and connective tissues, a sports massage can loosen these areas up and allow the athlete to move more freely.

Reduced Muscle Tension and Soreness

After a tough workout or competition, it’s not uncommon for athletes to experience muscle tension and soreness. Sports massage can help to provide pain relief of these symptoms by increasing blood flow, promoting lymphatic drainage, and releasing tension in the muscles. This can help athletes recover more quickly and get back to their training sooner.

Improved Circulation

Sports massage helps to improve circulation by increasing blood flow to the muscles. This increased blood flow can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, which can promote healing and improve overall performance.

Additionally, improved circulation can help to reduce swelling and inflammation, which can be especially beneficial for athletes who have suffered a sports injury.

Reduced Risk of Injury

By promoting physical healing and improving flexibility, sports massage can help to reduce the risk of injury for athletes. Additionally, by targeting specific areas of the body that are prone to injury, such as the hamstrings or shoulders, a sports massage can help to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place.

Improved Recovery Time

For athletes, recovery time is an important factor in performance. Sports massage can help to improve recovery time by promoting lymphatic drainage, reducing muscle tension and soreness, and promoting physical healing. This can be especially helpful for athletes who engage in high-intensity or endurance-based activities.

Treatment Philosophy – Deep tissue is great when appropriate. It is up to the intuitiveness of the therapist to determine if what the client is asking for is the right thing for them at that time. Sandy uses every opportunity to educate the client on what is going on with their body and how to achieve their health goals. She is their partner in health and believes that it is the clients’ body that does the healing, not her personally – she is just a facilitator.

Specialties & Types of Clients best suited to my style of therapy

  • Neuromuscular and deep tissue are her favorite techniques to use for clients who are suffering with migraine headaches, back and neck pain, hip and shoulder dysfunction
  • she loves to be a detective in order to figure out what the source of the pain is and then treat the whole person, not just the area of pain
  • she loves to stretch clients out to create length and restore posture
  • educating clients on home self-care is a passion and she will refer out to many sources in order that clients get the care they need.
